Dr. James Mason is founder and CEO of OCCAT – Organizational Cultural Competence Consulting and Training, where he has provided assessment, consulting and training over the past 25 years.
He is the former Chief Diversity Officer for Providence Health & Services in Oregon, where he designed curriculum for caregivers, developed outreach and marketing strategies and innovative health promotion and pipeline activities for underserved populations.
He is the former Director of the Office of Multicultural Health for the State of Oregon, and one of the founders of the National Association of State Offices of Minority Health.
He is a founding member of the National Center on Cultural Competence at Georgetown University where he developed a model of cultural competence along with tools for assessment.
He has consulted with professional schools and programs, health and human service systems and diverse groups regarding diversity, equity and inclusion in the United States, Latin America and Canada.
Dr. Mason lives in Portland, OR and has worked to improve health and human services since 1985.
