Denise Merle is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Stakeholder Engagement and Investor Relations at Weyerhaeuser Company. She is responsible for the company’s investor relations and human resources strategies, employee experience and talent management; and also oversees the company’s communication and corporate social responsibility activities.
In this role, Denise has been instrumental in using her business knowledge to create a successful support organization that is aligned with business strategies to drive shareholder return. She also plays an important role in focusing the entire organization on living the company’s core values and key behaviors every day.
Denise joined Weyerhaeuser in 1981 and has held progressive roles in finance and human resources throughout her career. Prior to her current role, she was director, Finance and Human Resources, for the Lumber business from 2013 to 2014. Prior to that role, she was director, Compliance & Enterprise Planning from 2009 to 2013, and director of Internal Audit from 2004 to 2009. She held various roles in the company’s paper and packaging businesses, including finance, capital planning and analysis, and business development. She is a licensed CPA in the state of Washington and member of the American Institute of CPAs. She holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Pacific Lutheran University and an MBA from Seattle University. She is on the board of advisors for Seattle University School of Business, the 2015 Board of Directors for the HR Policy Association, and the 2015 HR Leadership Summit Advisor Board.
